The regular meeting of the Board of the Town of Arland was called to order by Chairman Maynard Hoff at 8 PM on Thursday, June 10, 2010. All board members were present. Also present – Vic Keller, Brad Wolf.
The minutes of the previous meeting were presented by Clerk Fall. Motion by Dale Degerman, second by Maynard Hoff to approve. Motion carried. Treasurer Nelson presented a financial update. Motion by Robert Nelson, second by Degerman to approve. Motion carried.
Vic Keller gave a highway maintenance report. Work on 12th Street is underway.
Air exchanger bids were presented. A second one from Solution Heating & Air Conditioning was presented. They offered one bid – $2,200.00. This was compared to previous bids received from Dirks Heating. After discussion, a motion was made by Nelson with a second from Degerman to accept the bid from Solution. Motion carried.
Discussion on pest/rodent control. A proposal from Plunkett’s Pest Control was presented – annual cost would be $381.00 which also includes Asian beetle control along with the other critters. Motion by Nelson, second by Hoff to accept proposal from Plunketts. Motion carried.
Discussion on Keller retirement. Vic has notified the board that he will be retiring as of Sept. 01, 2010. He plans to be around so he can help in any emergency or other need for support. He suggested that we should consider hiring by August 1st so he could spend a month working with the new person.
Consideration was given to unpaid personal/sick days and vacation days. Motion by Nelson, second by Hoff to approve a 50% payout of unused vacation and personal time. Motion carried.
Job listing for the Highway Maintenance/Patrol Operator position was discussed. Clerk will put together an ad for placement in the next two weeks with a deadline for receiving resumes by July 2nd. First review of the applications will be at the July meeting. Board discussed several requirements that will be listed in the ad.
Bills were reviewed for payment. Motion by Hoff, second by Degerman to pay as presented. Motion carried.
